THE DEVIL WEARS . . .

A BLUE DRESS!

Cobalt comes calling this spring, with ravishing royals from couturiers and the mass market alike. Like the subway in New York City, blue is one of the great equalizers - suits anyone, no matter their race, age, skin type, or socioeconomic status.

This Alexander Wang Hologram dress (at right, for purchase at bloomingdales.com, along with the next 2 dresses!) creates added interest with a sequined front panel surrounding the inverted pointed arch neckline – borrowed (unwittingly so, perhaps) from Islamic architectural design.

Swingy and flirty, this Diane von Furstenberg jersey one shoulder dress (upper left) offers refined simplicity in a bold royal hue. I know a lot of you are saying: asymmetry, we're so over it, but I was a fan before it became a fad, and will be long after, presumably, as well.

We want to join the navy with Jay Godfrey’s sultry strapless dress, complete with a decorative bow (at left).

My favorite of the bunch is this incredible Notte by Marchesa cobalt trapeze dress with yoked black neckline (at right; available at Neiman Marcus).

For your next black tie event, this Elie Saab Fall 2008 Collection strapless dress will be divine (runway photo at left courtesy nymag.com).

Who knew that being blue could make us so happy?
(Addendum: see right hand column of Couture Carrie for blue dresses from Oscar de la Renta's Resort 2009 Collection!)

I do love cobalt blue - a nice shade for many skin tones!
